Charles Hamilton is on the cover of XXL Magazine's The 10 Freshman issue.
"Musically, they’re all dope in different ways: Cory for his rapid-fire flow, Asher for his wordplay and Cudi for his infectious melodies and pop sensibilities. B.o.B is preternaturally creative, Blu intricately introspective, Ace straight gutter. Mickey’s a mastermind, Curren$y is refreshingly relatable, Charles is aggressively blunt, always speaking his mind. And Wale is just on some next shit. You may not be able to tell by looking at them, but these 10 MCs are rap’s next generation." -XXL Magazine

"The mixtape’s title seems to refer to Hamilton’s penchant for going beyond the call of duty in this typically pedestrian format, and indeed, the manifesto-like “Just a Musician” is more than merely verses over the “A Milli” beat." -TimeOut New York

After listening to Jeezy's Recession in full, we fully support any youth who wants to role-model Jay Jenkins, especially if it inspires him to make songs this good. To be fair, semantically, it should be Cheezy Hamilton, but we realize that doesn't sound so tough, and we know for a fact that Charles is a tough kid. We talked to him for FADER 56, out on newsstands shortly, and he revealed himself to be Harlem's version of Good Will Hunting. He also dropped a total gem in explaining his love for the color pink (Hint: it has to do with anatomy). Read it all after the jump and stay ready for Charles' Interscope debut coming soon. - thefader.com

CHARLES HAMILTON sits back on a couch at a Los Angeles recording studio, marveling at the pink security wristband he received earlier in the evening while backstage at "Jimmy Kimmel Live," where he accompanied Pharrell Williams and his band, N.E.R.D. It's impressive company for the 20-year-old performer, who's been hailed as one of the most important new rappers to emerge in years.
But Hamilton, who loves the color pink and video game character Sonic the Hedgehog, says he doesn't lay claim to any particular genre. "Don't call me a pianist. Don't call me a guitarist . . . a bass player," Hamilton says. "Call me a musician because I communicate via music. And if there's a word for somebody that communicates with sound, I'd be that."
Hamilton's progressive production style, mixed with witty compound punch-line raps, is earning him a following in the music industry. Executives at Interscope Records not only signed Hamilton to a deal in March but also gave the performer his own imprint, Demevolist Music Group. Super-producer Williams, in a May radio appearance on New York's Hot 97, gave a shout-out to Hamilton, calling him a "monster." - LAtimes.com

"Charles Hamilton is 20 years old but experienced and battle-tested beyond his years. He’s come from being homeless in the streets of Harlem to having his own deal with Interscope that includes him running his own record label. Though the MC had a considerable buzz with his two mixtapes, Crash Landed and Outside Looking, he really garnered the most attention when the home video surfaced of him, Kanye and Game in a cipher. The video led to a lot of people asking:
“Who’s that little guy?”
That question is about to be answered. Charles Hamilton is a lyrical tour de force that stuffs each bar with emotional honesty. He doesn’t limit his candor to wax either. His blog (Iamnotcharleshamilton.com) is infused with honest diary entries that do not pull any punches. Luckily for us, this he approaches his interview with The Smoking Section with the same sincerity. Charles Hamilton responds frankly to a bevy of topics including his thoughts on what the Nas album could have been, mixtape rappers, his girlfriend and what was really going on during that landmark freestyle." - The Smoking Section
